Weekly Updates
If you would like to submit your daily training distances each month, you can go to the link listed below and join others in racking up the miles and bragging about it. I don’t think it’s too late to back track into the first of the year. Click here for a tracking form.
All 10 K and 5 K swimmers should be adding 15 minutes of extra swim time to their weekly training at least twice this week. It is a short 8 weeks away! I need confirmation of who wishes to swim this year to ensure I have enough lanes and timers for everyone. (We have 13 so far.) We will be swimming at Blossom on Saturday, June 23. We will start together at 8:00 a.m. sharp.
I can also offer to time a few people on Fridays mid-day at Blossom. We can start at 10:00, but you need to be finished by 2:00-2:30. If you’re trying to guess how long it’s going to take you, my strong swimmers (4000 for One Hour Swim) are done in 3 hours, next group (3400 OHS) finish around 4, and (2800 OHS) are done in 5 hours. You can stop as often, and for as long, as you wish. Eat, drink, make a phone call, the clock just keeps on clicking along.
I’d like 20 people to do it! The 5 K is set for Friday and Saturday, July 13-14.
I’ve had 3 people this week inquiring about the Alcatraz Invitational (on Sept 15.) I think you might be able to still sneak in. The cap on entries has been met, but as of Monday, they were still taking registrations. Sign-up if you can. We have 11 people going from the team. It will be a great experience!
Congratulations to our Arizona IronMan participants. Lorena Garsed- her first ever (16:00), David Richmond (13:44), Chris Rulon (10:47) and Sean Lewis (9:58). Sean qualified to race at Kona!!! He writes that he feels great, and that the guy right behind him also qualified, but the 2nd one didn’t. Sean made it in by 1 minute! Awesome job by everyone.
Ladies wishing to participate in their first triathlon, should contact Amber and Ashley for their annual Danskin Training group. Call RGR for more information. Training starts this week.
Anyone wishing to sign their kids up for summer league, either at the JCC or your own neighborhood team, should check into when sign-ups begin for each program. Many teams place caps on their numbers and fill up quickly.
LCM this Friday at noon. Blossom will be closed on Friday, April 27.
Please set aside Aug 10-13, this summer for the LCM Nationals to be held at The Woodlands in Houston. You do not need to qualify to swim your first 3 events and everyone is allowed to swim on the team relays. You have plenty of time to consider coming, but pencil in the date now to hold it on the calendar.
Last summer, 35 teammates traveled to Stanford Univ in California to attend the World Championships for swimming, water polo and open water and had the time of their life. The 2008 Championships will be held in Perth, Australia in April. Click here for more info on the meet.
Catch ya’ in the water,
Susan
Weekly Inspiration: Some people think it’s holding on that makes one strong; sometimes it’s letting go.
Weekly Health Tip: Fats and proteins slow digestion, so it’s actually better for you to eat a little olive oil or low fat cheese with your bread than eating the bread alone.
