The 3000/6000 postal is now underway. We’ve already had 10 swimmers take on the challenge swim. Next oppportuniy will be Friday, Oct 19 at the Davis pool 9:00 and 11:30 a.m. and Saturday, Oct 20 at 6:00 a.m. I need to know if you are coming, so I can make sure to have enough timers there.

Best of luck to our State Senior Games swimmers next weekend, when they travel to Temple to compete to be the best that Texas has to offer.

For those swimmers looking for a local meet or somewhere you can post SCM times, the downtown nat. is offering up a 1 day meet, Nov 17.

Congratulations to Christiane Reetz for her 4th place age group finish at the Xtreme Triathlon National Championships. The water was a balmy 55 degrees. It took her “30 minutes” to thaw her hands out after the swim in order to take her wetsuit off in the transition area. Great job in very tough conditions!

Check out both Sean Lewis’ and Liesl Inglish’s performances in the World Championship Ironman Triathlon. They did great!

David Gude tells us that there are advantages in breaking your wrist just prior to the triathlon that you’ve been training for all season. For one, it keeps people away on the run, because of the smell coming off the cast is unbearable. Your wrist never gets tired holding the handle bars, because it’s rigid as all get out. It also becomes an air conditioner on the bike, since it’s soggy out of the water, as air passes thru it, it can cool your torso down. And of course, the number one reason to wear a cast while competing, you can use it as a club to clear people out of your way in the swim!

Great job to our hikers taking on the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim last weekend. Led by our fearless leader Buz Kroner….Chris Mayhew, Chuck Oswald and Lynn Francis, plus lots of friends/family all created great memories. Total time was between 10 and 12 hours. WOW!!! Great photos were taken by all. They will be sure to share those with you and tell their stories of a trip, and challenge, of a lifetime! [The webmaster hopes that they will add their photos to the MOST Flickr Group’s Photo Pool using these instructions.]

Safe journey to Patricia and Ronda as they take on Machu Picchu, Peru this weekend.

Great reports from Elaine and Rosana from their trip and swim meet in Brazil.  They both competed in pool and open water events.  Elaine had numerous gold medal performances, Rosana placed very well with some great times posted, and both brought home great memories and a fantastic visit and experience.

The Spurs office contacted me and presented a game package offer for Spurs and Rampage games.  The Spurs play the 18th and the Rampage plays on the 19th of Oct.  You will get both tickets for only $15.  They are valued at $53.  They want to sell as many seats as possible early in the season and figured we’re an athlete based program and may be interested.  Let me know if you’d like to check out the flyer and order form.  (I cannot attach it when sending out mass emails).  You will order through them directly with a check or credit card by Oct 16th.  If we get enough bodies, they said they’ll put our team name up on the score board at the Rampage game!

We wish our team group that is taking on the Grand Canyon this weekend, lots of fun, laughter, and pictures.  They are spending the night on the North Rim, hiking Rim to Rim in one day, and then back out on the South Rim.  A night of partying in Las Vegas Sunday night and home again on Monday.

I know I’ve posted a few conflicting JCC closure dates, but the JCC website was incorrect.  Coming up dates are…

Oct 4 - JCC closed
Oct 6 - Ladies Water Polo games at 1604 pool
Oct 8 - Columbus Day 6:00 and 8:30 a.m. workouts.  Davis is Closed
Oct 13 - Sugarland Swim Meet
Oct 14 - JCC closed
Oct 18-19 - Spurs and Rampage game ticket package
Oct 19-20 - Texas Senior Games in Temple
Oct 31 - Wicked Workout

We will be testing Max HR throughout the month.  The swim set takes about 20 minutes and we will be pulling people out of the main set in groups of two each day.  There are no reliable formulas for predicting max heart rates.  You must determine that for yourself.

Our team just received it’s first rebate check from Accel.  Any products that you purchase through the website, we get a small kick back to the team.

Best of luck to Leisel Inglish and Sean Lewis as they will be leaving shortly to compete at Hawaiian IronMan in 10 days.  You can track their race live at Click here: Ironman Series - IRONMAN.com.

Check out this article on our own Graham Johnston in the Lane 9 column in Swimming World Magazine. If he keeps breaking records, he’ll need to hire a press agent.
