Weekly Updates

3K/6K news… Workout schedule changes… MOST Iron(wo)men… 5K/10K results (and call for volunteers)… Senior Games… Navy Seal Challenge… Great offer on Accel sports products… bug in the ear.

Swimming on Friday, in the Davis pool, for the 3000 or 6000 swims are 9:00 (Susan, Claire, Lynn, Henry). We can add 2 more. Tiitta and Lee P will be timing. Everyone should be there by 8:50. Another slot open is 11:30 with Marie, with Susan timing. Michael goes Saturday, 6:00 a.m. at UTSA with Elaine timing. Just let me know if you plan on coming in for any of these options. Next opportunity will be Friday Nov 2 at 9:00 and 11:30. Suzanne, Susan and Kris are queued up to go on that day. All swims must be complete by Nov 15. I am unable to secure any early weekday slots because the kids start their workouts at 6:00 a.m at all area pools. If you already swam the One Hour, 5 K and 10 K, then the 3000 and 6000 are kinda have-to’s.

Davis pool will be closed next Monday due to a Battle of the Bands high school competition. Too many kids and too many cars, with no parking, makes for a great excuse to have a day off.

Results from Hawaiian IronMan: Sean finished 36th in his age group with a total time of 10:01. 1:09 swim, 5:20 bike, and 3:23 run. He passed close to 20 men in his age group just in the run! Way to finish strong! Liesl was 14th in her age group with a time of 11:21. 1:08 swim, 6:20 bike and 3:41 run. She was only 6 minutes from finishing top ten. We’re proud of both of you!

I have been patiently waiting for USMS to post the official results from the 5 and 10 K Challenges, but I think it’s safe to let you have a sneak peak! Complete results should be posted on the USMS site by tomorrow. In the 5 K, the ladies were 2nd, the men were 2nd, but we finished 1st Overall! In the 10K, the ladies were 1st, the men were 1st, which makes us 1st Overall again!! Congratulations to everyone! Swimmers, timers, lane-mates, and supporters. A huge thank you to Kris Jackson for her data entry efforts and Henry Halff for developing/creating/throwing magic pixie dust on a formula for the results that made my life easier.

There are plenty of standout swims to brag about. Graham set the (75-79) National Record in the 5 K. Winning their respective races were Graham (5K), Elaine (10K), Chase (10K). Coming in the Top Three were Susan (5K & 10 K), Ronda (10K), Kat (10K), Lynn (10K), Joe (10K), Les (10K), and Michael (10K).

Our Mixed 45+ 5 K Relay (Susan/Kat/David P/Graham) and the Men 55+ 10 K Relay (Don/Ernie/Henry) finished 1st. Setting new National Relay Records were W 45+ (Susan/Ronda/Elaine), Mx 18+ (Susan/Elaine/Chase/Les), Mx 55+ (Judy/Lynn/Don/Henry), M 18+ (Chase, Les, Michael).

Wow!!! Now, if I can round up some bodies to help assist us with mailing out shirts, awards and results. We plan on setting up an assembly line next Tuesday at the JCC from 10:00-11:00. More bodies, the better.

Best of Luck to our State Senior Games participants this weekend!

Want to take the challenge? The Navy Seal Fitness Challenge is a run - swim - push/up kinda deal where weakness is not an option! The San Antonio date is Nov 10.

Okay, now something from the icky department………..Buz has been complaining for 3 weeks, “I can’t get the water out of my ear”. Whine, whine, whine, we’ve all heard that before. He finally gives up and goes to the doctor, who then says, I see the problem. He had a 1″ bug in his ear! Okay, say it with me, “Yew!” He now has it in a jar on his desk. I think we need to help him name his little friend. Any thoughts?
