- Roberta Varela-Hein (age 43) finished 2nd female overall at the Albuquerque 1/2 marathon with a time of 1:32, finishing behind the 1st place finisher (age 23) by only 10 seconds.
Usually, I will write up our National Top Ten candidates to make sure you are aware of the preliminary results, but unfortunately(?) we have so many this LCM season, that I am asking for you to look them up and report back to me for any corrections. Wow! Also, you’ll have to check out our relays!!! Another Wow! goes out to our entire team, since almost everyone is listed!
Our ladies water polo team, who traveled to Texas A & M last weekend, competed against the college girls and still averaged 5-7 goals every game. Way to hang in there.
Best of luck to all our participants in the San Antonio Marathon this Sunday.
Registration is now open for the 2008 Alcatraz Swim. They take 600 entries, so no rush, but you do need to start thinking about this as a goal and save the date. We had a fantastic time this past year and wish to repeat this event again. Please check out the website for more details….
I hope that all of you don’t mind that I indulge myself here. Today, I celebrate my first year of life without cancer. Thank you all so very much for your support and love for my return back to the deck, the water, and to the human race. I have achieved so much this past year and could have not done it without all of you and your encouragement. My blessings are many, but most of all I am blessed to be surrounded by such a fantastic group of swimmers, friends and family. I know that I challenge you as a coach, but may I also challenge you as people, who face challenges/obstacles on a daily basis. Remember: “Inspired people are inspiring.” May you be strong for your family and especially for yourselves. I love all you very much and thank you for being an important part of my life!
