Weekly Updates
Thanks to Ken… Workout schedule changes… New payment system… Health check screenings.
A big THANK YOU to Ken Leclerc, and his wife Sarah, for hosting a wonderful holiday party at their home last Saturday. We had a great turnout, plenty of great food to share, fun gifts traded around, and more than enough laughs throughout the evening.
There will be practice on Monday at the JCC 6:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. For those who missed the 30 minute swim or Brute Squad Challenge, have no fear, you will still be able to get that in on Monday. Wouldn’t want you to think that you missed out! Please bring a copy of your USMS card and $5 if you are interested in entering those postal events.
There are no workouts scheduled at any location on Tuesday. If you can get in a swim on your own, the New Year’s Day Challenge is to see how many 50’s you can cram in one hour. Swim 10 x 50’s on short rest, take 30-60 second break and push off again for another 10. By the way, the operative word in that title is “Challenge.” So that would mean, getting 3-7 seconds rest throughout, not 15! For example:
10 x 7 rounds @ :45 with 7 breaks of :30, plus extra 4 x 50’s = swimming 74 x 50’s = 3700 meters/yds
10 x 5 rounds @ 1:00 with 5 breaks of 1:00, plus extra 5 x 50’s = swimming 55 x 50’s = 2775 meters/yds
If you swim at the JCC (or meter pool), you can then take your yardage and multiply by 1.1 to get a yard distance. Example - If you swam 3700 meters = 4070 yards. 2775 meters = 3050 yards. Both distances are great goals to shoot for.
I hope that our new payment system will be in place by Thursday. If it is not, we will run the usual monthly charges on Saturday, and anyone wishing to pay by check can do so. This system will only change how payments will be handled - there are no increases in training fees. You do not need to do anything about the annual team fee at this time.
