Thank you to everyone who has registered online for the new payment plan. For anyone who registered prior to the 14th of January, payment was done through your Thriva account. For everyone else, credit card charges went out the 15th. Starting in February, all charges will be made automatically done on the 5th. I hope to get your suits, shirts and caps out to everyone next week.
Great job on our first group of One Hour swimmers. Almost everyone has posted a personal best on their swim thus far. Coming up on Friday at 12:00 in Davis will be Henry, Brian, John R., Jerry, and Chris M. On Sunday, JCC 9:00 a.m., we have 2 swimmers (David Pr. and Glenn) with room for 2-3 more. Check the boards for sign-up slots. Please print and bring with you the entry form, as well as $6 and a copy of your USMS card.
In a message from the director of the Brute Squad Challenge: “I can’t thank you enough for getting so many of your team to participate in this year’s Brute Squad. Though I haven’t tabulated everything yet, I believe your group will clearly be in first place in a number of categories. GOOD JOB.”
The director of the 30 Minute Swim has sent me a certificate for everyone that entered. Please pick them up at the desk at the JCC, from Elaine on Saturday, or me at Davis.
I thank you as well. It means a lot to those teams hosting the smaller events. It gives the event some interest and value, plus puts a few dollars in their team accounts. Speaking of which…
For hosting the 5 K and 10 K this summer, we made a profit of $2000 for the team. I would love to hear some suggestions as to how to spend it. I have a few training items that I may purchase for the team, but I want to hear what the group would like.
The Alcatraz Invitational will be held on Sept 20, 2008. The event will take up to 600 swimmers, and has 350 slots already filled. If you wish to join us, please start putting together plans to do so. Thus far, we have 10 people that are registered. This is a 1 1/2 mile swim that can be done in a wetsuit. Last year, we boasted that we had the largest team, the oldest participant, and the overall first place finisher. We all had a great weekend with our spouses and family in San Francisco. It really is a fantastic event!
For anyone wishing to get a race in early, there is a time trial meet in Austin on Feb 2. The kids will go first, followed by a Masters segment that should have a 1:30 warm-up and 2:30 start. Check out the entry form for more details.
SCY Zones will be March 28-30 at our own Davis Natatorium. Although this is a big meet, there will be lots of swimmers from our team, so it will be not be too scary and lots of fun competing. For those that have not attended a meet before, women swim followed by the men. Swimmers are placed in groups (heats) according to their ability. Within your heat there may be swimmers 19 or 79, but all of you go down and back in approx. the same amount of time. Don’t worry about being last, there is always someone slower than you out there. Relays are the best part of the meet. Please review the entry form. Please turn in all entries to me, with checks made out to the meet director. I will then submit the team entry via software to make it easier for the meet director to handle all our entries. Last year, we traveled off to Houston and were crowned Champions. We certainly want to defend our title in our own home town!
If you have not already done so, USMS registration is now due. Please download the form and either mail directly to the address on the bottom or give back to me.
Congratulations to Josh for his upcoming induction into the San Antonio Hall of Fame. The event will be February 15th and is open to anyone who wishes to attend.
Remember the Davis pool will be closed this Monday, Jan 21st for Martin Luther King Day. Hummm, does that mean it’s a holiday workout? Now, what can I do with MLK?
Catch ya’ in the water,
Susan
