Austin Coach’s Clinic … Postal Events, Past and Future … Nationals News … Workout News You Don’t Want to Read … SCM Top Ten … Alcatraz News
April 4-5-6 offers a coach’s clinic in Austin that is open to all swimmers, coaches and future coaches.
For those interested in participating in a postal 1650, the entry form can be found here. I am not sending this in as a team event, so you will need to submit entries yourself. You can take your swim time from a meet, practice swim, or your splits from the One Hour.
(Copies of your OHS split sheet can now be picked up from me at each practice.)
Results from the Brute Squad Challenge can be found here. Many swam in the Fitness challenge, and we had a few enter the competitive category. Congratulations to Kat Boyer (2nd), Israel Robles (6th) and Henry Halff (1st). For the rest of us who swam 200 Fly, 400 IM and 1500 Free - for FUN!, MOST won the team Fitness Category!
For Nationals (May 1-4)…The entry fee is $4 per individual event plus the meet surcharge. A $40 surcharge per swimmer (even if just swimming relays) will apply to online entries submitted by March 20, 2008, or mailed entries postmarked by March 20, 2008. A $50 surcharge applies to all online entries received after March 20, 2008. Refund requests must be received in writing by April 3. Relay-only swimmers must submit an entry form with payment by the entry deadline. All this means, is you have to choose from a $10 discount on your entry fee or wait until after Zones to qualify and pay the extra fee. But remember, you can enter up to 3 events without qualifying.
Congratulations to Bill Henrich and Michael Guirl for being honored as San Antonio’s Top 500 doctors.
For those of you wait up each and every Thursday night to catch this week’s most recent copy of our weekly updates, you get to find out before anyone else, that Friday, yes tomorrow, will be Fast Friday. So, a few of you will get up early and eat a good breakfast, most of you will groan and roll your eyes, and a few more innocently will ask, “What is Fast Friday?” Bring something to drink, maybe even a gel for that extra energy boast for your swims. That last sentence alone should concern you. But have no fear, I haven’t killed anyone off yet. For those in the know, you will be able to choose your stroke for the set.
Preliminary Top Ten for SCM have now been posted. Listed in this past season are Jane Birkhead, De Ette Sauer, Georgia Goggin and Graham Johnston. Graham is listed with five # 1 swims and set a new National Record in the 100 Free.
We now have 19 people signed up for Alcatraz on September 20. We will be staying at the Tuscan Inn, 5 blocks away from the beach finish and 3 blocks from the Embarcadero. It’s still not too late to join us!
Catch ya’ in the water,
Susan
