Lots of great personal swims, team records and zone records were set. Complete results will be posted next week due to the huge number of results to get out. You can go online to check out your favorite swimmer or see your splits. We had 64 swimmers enter! Wow! 35 Relays were blowing and going each day. No real big mistakes or mishaps occurred. I know, I know, you all love to hear the stories, but for this little girl, I am happy that there wasn’t too much to report. It was a wild ride keeping everyone on task.
Great job on the One Hour Swim. Results are now being posted. We finished 2nd in the nation as a large team! Thank you to everyone who participated. We were a little short of last year’s total numbers, but our team yardage average was up from 3285 to 3450. That reflects a tremendous increase in everyone’s improvement over the past year. Thank you to everyone who participated in this annual challenge. Finishing in the top 25 in their respective age groups (some as large as 200 swimmers) were: Sharon Sander (45), Susan Ingraham (48), Elaine Fincham (52), Ronda Nisman (53), Kat Boyer (53), Linda Callaway (55), Georgia Goggin (78) Chris McKee (28), Henry Halff (65), Richard Hahn (65), Jerry Marchbanks (72) and Graham Johnston (76), who was national champion.
Nationals absolute deadline is midnight tonite for online entries. The mail-in entry is now closed. Be sure to get this in if you have not done so already. We will plan on a team dinner Sat and Sun evenings. Hotels and other arrangements are up to you to decide. The web site for the meet is here.
I will be out of town from April 14-27 for Worlds and then again from May 1-4 for Nationals. David Nordstrom is taking on the noon coaching, Ronda/Elaine will run the 6:00 a.m.’ers and Tiitta will handle the 8:30 group as well as they can be managed.
Starting this Friday, the noon workout will be in the Walker pool which is set up for 50 meters until the end of summer. We will be in 3 lanes on the far side of the pool. For those taking on the 5/10 K Challenge this year, I encourage you to get in the pool as much as possible. Open swim times are 10:00-2:00 each weekday.
I will take Senior Games swimming entries until Wednesday of next week. The meet will be held on Saturday, April 12. This is open to anyone who will be 50 before 12/31/08. It is a very casual meet and a great opportunity for someone to try their hand at competition. Also offered for those interested, are road racing for cyclists, several running and track events, as well as a triathlon.
I hope the JCC members have taken advantage of all the meetings that have been presenting the new improvements that are proposed for the facility. There are no plans to expand the pool area, other than play areas for the kids. You may wish to put your 2 cents in, as to what you would like to to see be added to the JCC.
