Wow! What a crazy competitive season we’ve had. I’m ready for a break, which I am sure that most of you are too. The mini summary is SCY Zones: 1st Place Team, Senior Games: everyone off the team qualified for State Games, Worlds: 29 medals earned, Nationals: 11th in the Nation!
Buz was so proud of all that we’ve done lately, that he is offering up his home for a celebration event. We also have to check out his new pool, which has be dubbed the showcase of all residential pools! Saturday, May 31, 4:00 p.m. This will be a potluck event. More details later, but “Mark the Date.”
Open Water Swim Clinic this Saturday (May 17th) at Boerne Lake. 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m., so wake up early sunshine and get your tail over to the lake! I will start promptly at 7:00 a.m. at the boat ramp. $40 payable to Swim SA. Rain, Fog, Cold or Wet, we’re going out on the lake. Count on dressing comfortably and bring something to sit on for the 1st 45 minutes. Boerne City Lake it located 35 minutes north of SA off I-10. Traveling north, pass 46 and the little league fields, exit Ranger Creek Rd. Go to the stop sign, turn left under the freeway and then take the first right. Go north on the access road 1 1/2 miles and turn left at the road sign for Boerne City Lake at Cibolo Creek Rd. Go 1 mile and turn left into the park area. The road will wind around to the left and there is parking at the boat ramp.
Open Water swim training will be at the May 21st and June 4th swim practices.
For those interested in swimming in the 10 K and 5 K National Postal events this year, you can download the entry form and have someone time/count for you or I am offering Sunday, June 22 for the 10 K and Sunday, July 13 for the 5 K. Both swims will be at the Walker (Blossom) pool starting at 8:00 a.m.
Plans are already in the works for rooms reservations for LCM Zones and Nationals. More details next week. Start setting those dates aside for July 25-27 (Woodlands) and Aug 14-17 (Oregon)
Our children are in our hearts and in our prayers this week.
Susan Loyola has not swum with us in a couple of years, but many of you may know her from the JCC. Her daughter, Elaine (19), was involved in a serious car crash. Her spine has been severely crushed. I only know of the events 2nd hand, but as of last week, it was known that she would be paralyzed from the waist down. She is in an induced coma, with the possibility of being completely paralyzed, or may not make it at all. We all will pray for the best possible outcome for Elaine, and to give her family strength at this very difficult time.
Nigel and Marlena Kurz continue to improve from their car accident. Nigel is out of his wheel chair and even swam with us for a short time this week.
Happy Mother’s Day! Felix (& Sandy) Frydberg had a baby boy at 8 lb 10 oz! Glenn (& Kelley) Garcia have a brand new daughter, Claire. All mommies and daddies are doing great.
Nate and Nancy Holt are excited to announce the engagement of their daughter, Laura. Laura swam with us last summer Nationals and received her proposal at Worlds in Australia.
A few more of you have shared with me some trials that you are facing with your children this past week as well. Moms tend to take on the world sometimes. May you know that we are all thinking of you and please allow your family and friends be the source of your strength.
Have a wonderful Mother’s Day this Sunday! For all the tears and cheers that our children bring into our lives and for all those Moms that are still in your lives, make the day special.
Catch ya’ in the water,
Susan
