Gunning for Kentucky …. 10K Swim …. Butternut Challenge …. Team Party …. Danskin Tri …. Age-Group Tri Qualifiers …. Request for Photos
I received the nicest compliment at Nationals a few weeks ago. The “voice” of Nationals, Mark Gill, came up to me and told me that their team was gunning for us during the 2008 One Hour Postal. He said, “Just wanted you to know that you have a target on your back.” Pretty cool…that someone is out there watching what we’re up to!
So, I just had to look them up and found the following quote on the Kentucky website.
Swim Kentucky Masters took the Large Team category with 337,795 yards over Masters of South Texas and three other teams in the 50-99 swimmer range.
Oh, and by the way, Kentucky Masters is the entire state of Kentucky with over 500 members on 10 teams. So, until they can brag that they had a 70% team turnout for their One Hour swim, all bets are off. I am very proud of our 2nd Place National finish. Just wait until next year, Kentuckyites! We’ll get you back. Always nice to be challenged to do your best!
The 10 K swim will be Sunday, June 22. I have 7 people signed up so far. This is one of those events you must train for and pre-plan the race day. Please make sure to attend Wednesdays (distance) practices. During he first week of June, you should complete your longest training swim of approx. 6000 meters. or 2/3 the time it will take for completion of the 10 K. In the 2 weeks that follow, workouts should be designed with pace in mind. Swim 100’s, 500’s or 1000’s at the pace you want to hold during the long swim. Keep distances that final week to 3000-4000 on any given day. You need to rest, eat/drink well and allow your body to be in completely recovered for the 3 days going into your race.
Congratulations to Linda as being our first person to swim the Butternut Challenge - - and she did it LCM! Who is going to step up to the plate next?
Unfortunately, I will not be in Texas to assist at the Danskin Triathlon in Austin this year. This is an incredible event in which I have either volunteered for or assisted athletes train for. The triathlon is June 8. If you are interested in volunteering, click here.
Team Party at Buz Kroner’s new home on Saturday, May 31. He has a brand new state of the art pool and can’t wait to show it off and people to jump in! Please bring a pot luck item, or meat to grill, or drinks to handle approx. 8 people. His invitation is to the entire team and spouses, but prefers the little ones stay home. Per Buz,
Our address is 14102 Country Vale 78216. We are off bitters between Hwy 281 and Blossom Pool We’ll have a gas grill and a charcoal grill available. Looking forward to next Saturday- 5-31-08 at 4:00 p.m.
I would really appreciate pictures sent to me that you have taken of the team from any event that you and/or others have attended. Even if it’s just you on a mountain climb, that’s okay. I would like them ASAP so I can put them together in a book for the team to check out at our team social on the 31st. Pictures should be no bigger than 4 x 6 please.
[Speaking of pictures, the webmaster would really like to get more participation in our Flickr photo group. To this end, he will, as circumstances allow, provide a lesson uploading photos to the group at Buz’s party.]
Congratulations to this past weekend’s National Triathlon Age Group Qualifiers: Chase Ingraham, Chris Rulon and Sean Lewis. A big Wow! goes out to our 11 teammates who braved the very humid and hot conditions to compete in either the Olympic or Sprint distance events held in Austin.
Catch ya’ in the water,
Susan
Weekly Inspiration: One must care about a world one will never see.
Weekly Family Tip: I am so proud of my husband! He saved so much money by not calling a plumber. It only cost me a trip to the hardware store to buy the new “guts” for the toilet. Oh…and yeah, another trip to buy the special wrench needed. Another trip to replace the newly stripped water line, as well as the simple replacement of the toilet roll holder that was knocked off accidently and repair of the chipped floor tile from the roll holder. But hey! - The clean-up after he was done was easy.
