If anyone is interested in swimming the 5 K, we have July 13 set aside to do so.I’m still encouraging anyone and everyone to complete the 500 Fly this summer. This can be done on any day and/or any practice time slot. Just let me know so that I make sure to bring my watch with me that day. Davis/Blossom closes on July 24, so keep that in mind as you’re training for this event. Our evening option for a swim practice has gotten off to a good start. Mon-Thu from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the JCC is open to anyone. (You do not have to swim the entire 1 1/2 hours nor be a member to join us at that time slot.) Kevin will be coaching this week as I finish up summer league practices, and then I will be on the deck for the entire month of July.Congratulations to Josh for qualifying for another Olympic Trails, this time, in the 50 Free. Broadcasts of the Trails will be at 8:00 p.m. from June 29 - July 6.Congratulations to Mark Cecconi on his recent adoption of a brand new baby boy!Dawn Elder had spinal fusion surgery this week in Colorado. She is excited to have all this pain behind her and looks forward to returning to at least her swim training in the near future. Her hope is that a very fast triathlete donated the bone material needed for the surgery. With a sad heart, I have to announce that Norman, a regular JCC member swimmer, who jumps in the water at 5:30 a.m. each day prior to us starting our workouts, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. He swam on Monday, but has now only been given 2 weeks to live. He has been a regular for us to swim around as we warm-up each morning and is 92 years old. If you can stop by the JCC desk and sign a card to be given to him, that will be great. He is already in hospice care and we will not be given a chance to say goodbye to him.Catch ya’ in the water,SusanWeekly Inspiration: Don’t prepare the path for the child, prepare the child for the path.Weekly Health Tip: With this year’s summer heat, make sure to drink a bottle of water every 2 hours.
