Congratulations to MOST for their 2nd Place finish at the 2008 LCM Zone Championships that were held at the Woodlands.  We had lots of personal bests, Zone Champions, and a few Zone Record swims thrown in.  The meet finished off with a beer relay to toast the pool in it’s final swim event before it will be torn out.

Off to Nationals next weekend for 13 of our swimmers.  Best of luck and fast swims in Oregon!

Our water polo Gator Gals have been busy, as well.  They traveled to Houston for a hard battled tournament and then competed in the Texas State Games the following weekend.  There, they were awarded 3rd Place.

Boerne Lake open water swim is now officially set for Saturday, August 23.  The 2 mile swim will begin at 8:00 a.m. followed by the 1 mile, 800 mtr and 400 mtr swims.  Click here for an entry form.  I will have hard copies at the pool.

Come cheer on Team USA to win the gold!  Santikos Palladium Theater at the Rim on Monday, August 11th 8:30 pm  To RSVP with your expected number of attendees dryther@mail.accd.edu

On August 12 at the JCC, free to all members and $5 for non-members will be a stretching seminar.  This will be a hands on learning experience that I hope will be a great start to having everyone understand the benefits of stretching and how to do it for increased flexibility, prevention of injuries, as well as improve strength and power.

For those going to Alcatraz, or anyone else looking for cheap summer flip-flops, Walgreens is having 50% off all styles.  ($2-$5 a pair)  Alcatraz swimmers need to wear something on their feet for the walk from Aquatic Park to Pier 39, but you may or may not get your shoes back.  Find something stylish and unique looking, so you can find your flip flops among the 600 other pairs of shoes.  My 20-something boys loved the blue with sparkles that I bought them last year.

Jane Birkhead wanted to let you know that “Alison Davies died this week.  She battled her cancer very hard and went a long 21 days with no fluids or nutrition.  It was a long hard journey, but she is now in a better place.  She will always be remembered as The Queen.”

We also bid goodbye to Norman who passed away last Friday.  He was a treasure to know for our 6:00 a.m. group in the morning.  He was 91.

Catch ya’ in the water,
Susan

Weekly Health Tip: Just because you can “hide” your weight, doesn’t make you fit. Fat that accumulates in your torso, is very bad for your general health.
