MOST Members’ Marathon Memories

Notes from several of our Rock and Roll Marathoners:

  • Sharon Sander – finished in 1:38 good enough for third in the 45-49 age group.
  • Brian Martin – I did the half marathon in 1:39:37, good for 45th of 682 in my AG (M45-49) and 464th of 17,110 overall.  I negative split the race, which I’m pretty sure was the first negative split in my life in any event of any sport!  My goal was 1:40 so I was pleased with the time.
  • Mark Cecconi – broke 4 hours on the full!
  • Ken Leclerc – ½ marathon results for me 1:29:30  8th in my age group (50-54),  131st overall, 118th male
  • Roberta Valera-Hein – did great- 3:09 (full marathon) – 17th overall female, 2nd in her age group
  • David Gude – The RNR this past Sunday was GREAT!  I did the ½; the weather was perfect; San Antonio looked great and there were lots of spectators on the course (which is atypical in SA), which made for lots more fun.  I did a PR.  I won’t actually tell you the time as runners will know it is really slow, and it won’t mean anything to non-runners.  However, my theory is if I am getting faster, I must NOT be getting older as I think the two are mutually exclusive.  The other point is that it is good to get into a sport late in life and be really crappy at it because all you can do is get better.  To anyone who “doesn’t run” (I think that includes YOU Susan) I say give it a try.  I am not a runner, not built for it, not fast, etc…I started out hating running, after about 3 years it was tolerable, but now, after about 6 years, I actually enjoy.  Next up is the ½ in Austin, President’s Day weekend.
