What is Masters Swimming?

Worlds Fly Masters swimming is a program that incorporates conditioning, stroke technique, strength and endurance. Each workout is designed to improve swimming skills and provide the best physical exercise you can do for your body.  It is also a great social network in which to find friends who love the water as much as you do.

Who can join?

Anyone who wants to swim. Current swimmers range in age from 21–94.  You need not be a strong swimmer, or even have a desire to compete, in order to enjoy the benefits of working out in the water. Women of MOST

Do you have to compete?

Open Water M. O. S. T. has members who do compete in formal Masters swim competitions. Some members train in order to improve their swimming for triathlons. We also have members who workout for the simple pleasure of swimming. Over one-third of our swimmers have never competed nor have any plans to compete.

Not in swimming shape?

You will quickly improve by just simply getting in the water and doing it. Every workout is adjusted for each swimmer’s ability level. Our program as one of the best and largest in South Texas. Where and when are the practices?

Workouts take place at the 25-meter outdoor pool at the San Antonio Jewish Community Center (JCC)—12500 Northwest Military Highway—at the Josh Davis Natatorium (Davis) in the Blossom Athletic Center, and at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). See the Workout Locations page for details.

There are several workouts available.

On weekdays, our early morning swimmers train at the JCC on Mon-Fri 6:00–7:00 a.m., MWF 8:30–9:30 a.m and TTh 9:00-10:00 a.m.

On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, swimmers have the additional option of 6:00–7:00 a.m. at UTSA.

At the Davis Natatorium, located in the Blossom Athletic Center, we offer 12:00–1:00 p.m. workouts on MTWThF.

For those who are working around work, and members of the JCC, we also offer Sundays 9:00-10:00 a.m. and 5:45-7:15 p.m. MTWTh evenings.

Who are the coaches?

Coach Susan

Susan is celebrating over 32 years of coaching and teaching swimmers. She was named the USMS 2008 Coach of the Year. She is ASCA Level II certified and has trained several internationally ranked athletes and swimmers. She currently holds the Masters National 800 Free Relay record and was the 2001 Masters National 200 Free Relay champion. Currently Susan is ranked Top Ten in the nation for her age group in numerous events. She was also the head swim coach for Modern Pentathlon National Team, which sent three athletes to the 2000 Olympics, including the Women’s Silver Medalist.

Susan has 3 sons, Chase (28) a Mechanical Engineer, living Dallas, Kyle (26) the wide receivers coach at TLU, a position that he played while at Purdue, and Colton (24) a recent Civil Engineering graduate from SMU. Corky, her husband of 30 years, is a land and resort developer.

The Sports desk at the Jewish Community Center (JCC) can take all registrations and answer any further questions you may have. Come and try your first workout at no charge.
